Prehab Yoga Drills
Prehab Yoga is short for 'prehabilitation yoga' which combines specific exercises to prevent injury and improve overall mobility and flexibility.
While many yoga classes incorporate warm-up routines, there are instances when these warm-ups may fall short, particularly if you're dealing with tension or tightness. Moreover, these warm-ups might not be sufficiently tailored to address areas of the body that are frequently engaged, such as hamstrings, shoulders, and wrists. For example, if you often assume positions like downward-facing dog, it can lead to wrist fatigue and potential injury. Additionally, practicing a rigorous vinyasa-style yoga, which leans more towards the yang aspect, can also pose a risk if there isn't a balance with the yin aspect to allow the body time to rest and rejuvenate.
This is why I have put together 3 different drills for you to explore and practice. These drills are especially important to practice if you know you're going to be doing power yoga or any other yoga class that involves consistent use of your hamstrings, shoulders, or wrists.
These exercises are also excellent for practicing after extended periods of sitting or engaging in repetitive task which can often lead to muscle tightness.
Feel free to practice these exercises on their own or as a starting point for another yoga session. Enjoy!
