When someone has done something to you that has created emotions of anger, hurt, and resentment, or when you may have done something that you regret, feel burdened by, or ashamed of, then it’s impossible to experience anything other than emotional pain. Of course, these emotions don’t feel good and it can take a toll on the body – increases blood pressure and heart rate and weakens the immune system. Which is why, to heal from something or someone’s actions, forgiveness is necessary.
Forgiveness doesn’t mean that you’re condoning or excusing past behaviours, but instead, forgiveness serves to help you find a way forward with a greater sense of peace and understanding. Spiritually, forgiveness is considered a virtue and a path to enlightenment.
